The Origin of TLM
I moved to Shreveport in January 2006 for love and found my second love, the film industry. While driving down Pines Road, I saw a large truck with the word L.I.F.T. on the side. There was a lot of commotion and I pulled over and asked what was going on, they were filming “Mr. Brooks”. I have always been the type to achieve what I want, and this experience I absolutely wanted. After about 2 years of extra and stand-in work, I realized I loved being behind the scenes, far more than being in front of the camera. The set was a great place to meet new people, experience different cultures and talents. I love helping people and this was a great place to do so. I started helping with casting on my own. When I knew a movie was coming I would start looking at the break down and line up some new faces for the local casting companies. This gave me great joy to introduce people to the industry who never thought they would or could be a part of a major film. Helping people was so simple, with dates and times or just an encouraging word. There are so many gifted and talented people here; I have worked along side them. All they needed was an avenue by which they can do what they love to the fullest.
I have heard the statement that there is no REAL talent in the Shreveport/ Bossier area. At that moment I understood how statements like that must make one feel. These comments took me back to when I was a little girl and I was told by my parents that I should dream while sleeping not while I was awake. Then, they told me I could be anything I put my mind to, very confusing. Basically, my mind should have been set on getting a secure job and sticking with it. I never listened, I kept dreaming while I was awake. I had to take jobs to live, but my dream never left me. TLM came knocking from a shoe box some where in dream land.
Talent Life Management was born in 2004 while I was in college. My Economics instructor assigned a project. We were to create an imaginary company with a purpose, a mission, and a valid name. Being witty I titled my company “TLM’ my initials. Talent Life Management is structured in this order for specific reasons.
First we have TALENT: Let’s go back to that dream, most dreams are based on something that you do well or something you would like to do well. Normally the thing that you want the most is the very place where you will find your hidden talents. A.) We will help you seek out your dreams and talents. B.) Open an avenue where your talents will grow through skills and training.
Once the training has begun and the goal assessments have been completed, you will begin to see a rise in self confidence and self-esteem. “Remember you never thought you could now you are realizing that you can.”
Next is LIFE: now that the confidence has risen we plug in the life skills, behavioral skills, ethics, manners, health, grooming, posture, overall positive morals and values. We need your inside healthy as well as your outside. These elements work in conjunction with one another. If your inside isn’t feeling too great, and you fix up the outside your feelings inside will improve. This takes time and effort on your part, but you will have support along the way. Once you believe you are the best that you can be, anything is achievable. When you go out into the world we want your head held high!
The MANAGEMENT: Is based on my and others experiences in learning. We have found that people learn in different ways. Some are verbal, note taking and reading, or classroom learners. Others don’t completely learn something until they physically do it. I believe that both methods are extremely necessary. Knowledge is picking up a book, listening to others and overall learning new things. Skill is gained through applying what you’ve learned and doing it. Our plan for this training is through our internship and apprenticeship program. This will allow our participants the opportunity to show their skills, gain more needed training, and help local businesses. Our industry-professionals who participate in the training will also assist in the management area of our program.
Last but not least, our hope is that once you have found your life’s calling that you will come back and share your knowledge with others.
